The relationship between dopamine and motivation

by Craig Gillham | March 5, 2025 | Blog posts

Understanding dopamine and motivation is one of the most important factors in changing behaviour.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that drives reward and motivation.

When you accomplish something, dopamine is released in your brain. This makes you feel good and motivates you to keep going. It’s like your brain saying, “Great job, keep it up!”

Here’s how to use dopamine:

➔  Break down your big goals into smaller, manageable tasks. Each small win releases dopamine, keeping you motivated.

➔  Give yourself immediate rewards after completing tasks. This reinforces positive behaviour and keeps you driven.

➔  Focus on your progress, no matter how small. Celebrate your achievements and let dopamine fuel your journey.

Understanding and using dopamine effectively can significantly improve your motivation and behaviour.
